A 14-year-old girl was attacked when a group of eight people stormed into a Southern Guilford High School classroom and assaulted the girl on Tuesday, Fox 8 reports.
The group of eight, made up of six students, an 18-year -old, and a 37-year-old parent entered a SGHS classroom around 9:45 am and attacked the girl.
According to authorities, three of the six students attend SGHS, with the remaining three attending other schools in the county.
Investigators believe the attack was linked to a bus stop fight on Monday, with a 16-year-old SGHS girl believed to have potentially led the fight.
Deputies say a group of friends aging between 16-18 assembled with a plan for the 16-year-old girl to let the group into the school building.
Two other SGHS students left out of a locked door, giving the group the opportunity to go inside.
The 16-year-old girl reportedly led the group upstairs to the classroom, where the group entered and began to assault the 14-year-old girl, who suffered minor facial injuries.
A school resource officer, faculty, and administration responded to the incident but was unable to prevent the attack in time. The group ran from the classroom, but was stopped in the parking lot.
No arrests were made Tuesday, but deputies expect charges to be filed on Thursday.
The sheriff's office is working on getting warrants on charges of misdemeanor assault and first-degree trespassing for the attackers who do not attend the school, and they may also be accused of inciting a riot. The juveniles will be charged on a juvenile petition.
Investigators are using a combination of witness testimony, surveillance video, and cell phone video to determine what exactly happened during the incident.
