California college counselor eggs on students in decapitation of Trump effigy

A viral video first posted to the influential Libs of TikTok account showed a school counselor at California's Contra Costa College directing a small group of students to bash an effigy of President Donald Trump until it was decapitated.

The incident reportedly took place several months ago, but despite assurances from the school that it did not "condone or allow violent political rhetoric" and that the incident had been "addressed as a personnel matter," there was no outward evidence that Gonzalez faced any consequences.

Gonzalez remained listed in the school directory as a part-time faculty member in the school's Africana/Chicano/Ethnic Studies department as of Sunday afternoon. Her name also appeared on an organizational chart under the counseling department as part of the school's Student Services Division.

In her counseling capacity, Gonzalez was listed as teaching a course in Personal Development, which was part of the First Year Experience program "designed to help new students transition smoothly into college life and build a strong foundation for academic success."

Gonzalez and the school both declined to respond to a Fox News inquiry about the incident. However, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle was quick to condemn it.

Ingle urged those who engaged in or endorsed anti-Trump political violence to "immediately seek psychiatric help to treat their severe and debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has warped their brains and made them sick in the head."

Although effigies have frequently been viewed as a form of protected political speech, The College Fix noted that Gonzalez herself lashed out in reaction to a comedian's joke at Trump's 2024 Madison Square Garden rally that compared Puerto Rico to a "floating island of garbage."

Libs of TikTok and its founder, Chaya Raichik, have regularly faced threats of violence and cancellation over the effort to call attention to left-wing extremism.
