A new poll has revealed that the majority of American voters say the issue of abortion will be an important issue in the 2024 presidential election, and that the Democrat party is more trusted to handle this issue.

The poll, conducted by Rasmussen Reports, found that 48 percent of voters believe the issue will be an "important" topic in the election, while 29 percent said it will be "somewhat important."

Abortion being seen as an important topic was true among voters of all political affiliations, with 85 percent of Democrats, 71 percent of Republicans, and 71 percent of independents saying that the issue was somewhat or very important.

Democrats held an 11-point lead over Republicans among voters when asked which party they trusted to handle the issue more. 47 percent said they trusted the Democrat party more to handle abortion, while 36 percent said they trusted Republicans more on the issue.

While 85 percent of Democrat voters voted for their own party on the issue, and 73 percent of Republican voters voted for the GOP, independent voters were largely split, with 36 percent saying they trusted Democrats more, 33 percent saying they trusted Republicans more on the issue, and 31 percent responding that they weren’t sure.

54 percent of voters said that they would consider themselves to be pro-choice, while 38 percent said they considered themselves to be pro-life. Among Democrats, 75 percent said that they were pro-choice and 20 percent said they were pro-life. 60 percent of GOP voters said they were pro-life, and 33 percent said they were pro-choice. Among independent voters, 53 percent said they considered themselves to be pro-choice, while 36 percent said they were pro-life.

The poll was conducted on November 8, 9, and 12 of 987 likely US voters and has a margin of error of 3 percent.

The poll comes as the 2024 presidential election is less than a year away, with polling showing that it will likely be a rematch between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. The first caucus, held in Iowa, is two months away.

This also comes as Ohio voted in the 2023 election to enshrine abortion rights into the state’s constitution, and over one year after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, sending the decisions on abortions back to individual states.

The ruling sparked widespread protests across the United States, including the firebombing of multiple pro-life centers across the United States.
