There are still eight House races yet to be called, now almost four weeks after Election Day, Nov. 3. In these eight races, the GOP is leading their Democrat opposition.
The New York Times reports that these races are:
California, 21st Congressional District
With 98 percent of the vote reported in, Republican David Valadao leads Democrat TJ Cox 50.5 percent to 49.5 percent. Cox is the incumbent in that district.
California, 25th Congressional District
With 98 percent of the vote reported in, Republican Mike Garcia leads Democrat Christy Smith 50.06 percent to 49.94 percent. Garcia currently holds the seat.
Iowa, 2nd Congressional District
With 89 percent of the vote tallied, Mariannette Miller-Meeks leads for the GOP against Rita Hart, 50.01 percent to 49.99 percent, with a difference of less than 50 votes.
New York, 1st Congressional District
With 77 percent of the vote reported in, GOP incumbent Lee Zeldin leads Nancy Goroff 61.3 percent to 38.7 percent.
New York, 2nd Congressional District
Republican Andrew Garbarino has 56.4 percent of the vote to Democrat Jackie Gordon's 42.6 percent.
New York, 11th Congressional District
Nicole Malliotakis leads incumbent Democrat Max Rose 57.9 percent to 42.1 percent, with 85 percent of the votes recorded.
New York, 22nd Congressional District
Republican Claudia Tenney leads with 50.4 percent of the 92 percent reported in to Democrat Anthony Brindisi's 47.4 percent.
New York, 24th Congressional District
With 92 percent of the vote tallied, John Katko leads for the GOP 57.4 percent to Democrat Dana Balter's 38.9 percent.
The House of Representatives currently holds 222 Democrats, and 205 Republicans. If these 8 seats are officially called for the GOP, the party of Lincoln will hold 213 votes to the Democrats 222. While 218 seats are needed for the Democrats to retain control, 213 speaks to the broader appeal of the GOP than most media believed.
