While the United States Supreme Court considers the constitutional basis for a federally-protected right to abortion, actress Jameela Jamil is making a slightly more pragmatic argument — she believes men should fight for abortion to avoid becoming fathers.

In an Instagram post, Jamil laid out her argument.

“Do YOU want zero way out of a lifelong fatherhood and child support payments, even if you’re a teenager, because a condom broke?” Jamil wrote. “The men I know who have had partners/one-night stands who have had abortions have also lived with immense relief and gratitude, as they were not in a position to raise a child emotionally/financially.

Jamil, 36, is a writer, actress, and self-described political advocate. She appeared most recently in media like Marry Me, and the TV series Mira, Royal Detective.

Jamil has previously called Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter an act of hate.

“I fear this free speech bid is going to help this hell platform reach its final form of totally lawless hate, bigotry, and misogyny. Best of luck,” she posted.

She has since left the platform but continues to use Instagram.

When Texas passed its Heartbeat Bill in fall 2021, Jamil said she views the law with “disgust.” She also said an abortion procedure “saved her life.”

“I had not a minute of regret,” she posted. “I only felt deep relief and gratitude that I lived in a country that made abortion accessible and safe. Nobody made me feel bad for being there. They just gave me HEALTHCARE. Because that is what abortion is.”
