A recent Fox News poll has found that more than half of Americans do not plan on going away for vacation this summer, with 55 percent saying they'll be staying home.

Among those who said they won't be doing any travelling, nearly three quarters said it was because they "don't have money" to do so as the price of just about everything continues to go up, putting further strain on people's already struggling finances.

According to the poll, which was conducted among 1,126 American voters between May 10 and 13 and has a margin of error of +/- 3 percent, 73 percent of those not taking a vacation this year said it was because of money, while 15 percent cited a lack of time.

Among those who said they would be travelling, 31 percent said higher prices were impacting their plans "a great deal," while 41 percent said "some."

Americans with college degrees and a household income of over $50,000 were more likely to have summer vacation plans than those without. The disparity was similar between those under 30 and over 65. Democrats were slightly more likely than Republicans to travel this summer, at 45 and 41 percent, respectively. Independents were least likely, at just 37 percent.

When asked to what extent groceries, housing, health care, and utilities were impacting their financial situation, the vast majority of Americans said each of those was a "problem."

In a land where road trips reign supreme, gas is a staple in many families' vacation plans. Nearly all respondents said the rising price of fuel was becoming an issue, with 49 percent declaring it a "major problem."

On Wednesday, the Biden administration moved to try and reduce the cost at the pump by selling off nearly 1 million barrels of gasoline from the Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve. The nearly 42 million gallons of fuel is set to be delivered to buyers by June 30, then distributed to local gas stations right before the 4th of July holiday.

"The Biden-Harris Administration is laser focused on lowering prices at the pump for American families, especially as drivers hit the road for summer driving season," Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said in a statement. "By strategically releasing this reserve in between Memorial Day and July 4th, we are ensuring sufficient supply flows to the tri-state and northeast at a time hardworking Americans need it the most."
