The Pew Research Center released the results of a new poll which showed that Americans have less confidence in various world leaders, including President Joe Biden, than citizens surveyed in Canada, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region do.

The poll, which surveyed 17 global publics, questioned public sentiment on world leaders such as French President Emmanuel Marcon, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Merkel scored the highest, with 63 percent of those polled responding that they had confidence in her. She was followed by Biden at 60 percent worldwide, who was tightly followed by Macron at 58 percent.

Putin and Xi didn't fare so well, with only 16 and 15 percent of respondents having confidence in them as world leaders, respectively.

Within the US itself, things are very starkly divided by party affiliation. 88 percent of Democrats backed Biden's decision-making ability, while only 27 percent of Republicans did. Only a third or so of US adults expressed that they trust their head of state "a lot," whereas fully 39 percent of them do not trust Biden "at all".
