Another high-ranking staffer of Vice President Kamala Harris has signaled that they will be stepping down, marking the second in just a few weeks.
The senior adviser and chief spokesperson for Harris, Symone Sanders, is expected to leave the White House at the end of the year, five administration officials familiar with the matter told Politico.
Sanders' announcement comes less than a month after Harris' communications chief Ashley Etienne revealed that she would be leaving the office in December, after previously stating that she would be working in Harris' office for one year.
In a note to staff Wednesday night, Sanders confirmed her exit, thanking Harris and fellow staffers.
"I'm so grateful to the VP for her vote of confidence from the very beginning and the opportunity to see what can be unburdened by what has been. I'm grateful for [Harris chief of staff] Tina [Flournoy] and her leadership and her confidence as well. Every day, I arrived to the White House complex knowing our work made a tangible difference for Americans. I am immensely grateful and will miss working for her and with all of you," wrote Sanders, according to Politico.
An official in the vice president's office confirmed Sanders' departure, and said the president and vice president have "known for a while" that she would be leaving.
The official also noted that Sanders had previously worked for President Joe Biden for nearly three years.
Flournoy also sent a note to Harris' team, saying, "Symone told the VP a couple months ago that she'd be leaving us at the end of the year. I've often said about her that no job is too big or too small for Symone."
Sanders had served as the one to transition Harris vice presidential team, after she served as a Biden campaign senior advisor during the 2020 election.
She served to help address key issues like migration during her time, and was outspoken about rumors regarding Harris, tensions inside her office, and her political future.
