A protest against federal immigration enforcement spiraled into mayhem Tuesday night in downtown Chicago as rioters blocked traffic, clashed with police, and vandalized property.

According to Fox 32, hundreds flooded the streets as part of a campaign called From LA to Chicago: ICE Out! by far-left activists opposed to the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement strategy.

Police squad cars were vandalized with graffiti, traffic was halted across downtown, and chaos erupted when a vehicle tried to pass through a protest mob, resulting in injuries and terror for pedestrians. The Chicago Transit Authority was forced to suspend bus service across the city center due to rolling street closures.

Video from the scene shows a maroon car weaving through a crowd on Monroe Street around 6:20 p.m., coming dangerously close to striking individuals. A Chicago police officer attempted to stop the vehicle by striking the window, but the driver, reportedly frustrated by being trapped by the demonstrators, fled the scene. The car was later seen in the West Loop, with a shattered window and surrounded by civilians.

The Chicago Police Department could not immediately provide arrest figures and called the situation “fluid and ongoing.”

Multiple squad cars were targeted with spray paint, many adorned with profane messages. Alderman Raymond Lopez (15th Ward) shared images of the vandalism on X, remarking, "Anyone else having 2020 flashbacks?

Earlier in the day, roughly 100 protesters disrupted operations at the Chicago Immigration Court in the Loop. Even mainstream media vehicles were vandalized by the mob. Rioters claimed they managed to interrupt court proceedings, but federal officials have yet to confirm it. A federal employee across the street reported that her office allowed workers to leave early out of safety concerns.

This surge in protest activity follows violent riots that erupted in Los Angeles over the weekend. Federal officials have warned that more deployments of federal agents and National Guard units may be necessary as cities like Chicago, Seattle, and New York experience similar unrest.
