Progressive "Squad" member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was spotted in Miami Beach on Thursday as her district along with the rest of New York City was slammed by a record number of COVID cases.
Pictures obtained by National Review show the socialist firebrand "…seated outside Doraku Sushi and Izakaya in Miami Beach Thursday afternoon, raising a cocktail in one hand and checking her phone in another."
A Twitter account affiliated with Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis posted, "Welcome to Florida, AOC! We hope you’re enjoying a taste of freedom here in the Sunshine State thanks to @RonDeSantisFL’s leadership."
AOC’s decision to travel to the red state of Florida reminded many of her repeated attacks against Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for briefly going to Cancun, Mexico to drop off his family earlier this year as the state of Texas dealt with a storm and power crisis.
In one back and forth with Cruz on Twitter, Ocasio-Cortez replied to the Senator, "Ted, this is pretty rich coming from someone who fled their own home (and responsibilities) during an environmental crisis to cross the border and seek refuge in Mexico."
She added, "Maybe Mexico shouldn’t let YOU in the next time you try to run away from your job to sip umbrella drinks in Cancún."
According to a local NBC affiliate, New York "…smashed its single-day COVID case record for the second straight day Thursday, reporting at least 74,207 new positives as the omicron surge stretches hospitals further." Hospitalizations also continue to increase.
