The Western Voice is a new weekly show hosted by Cory Morgan which examines news issues and interviews guests from a Western Canadian point of view.
This week’s show begins with an example of the sort of thing which tends to make Western Canadians so grouchy. University of Ottawa professor Amir Attaran recently released a string of tweets in which he called for the federal government to withhold emergency hospital supplies from Alberta as the pandemic potentially overwhelms the health care facilities.
Attaran claims he singled out Alberta for this dangerous suggestion because Alberta failed in keeping the pandemic under control. The good professor didn’t dare suggest such action against Quebec where deaths per capita have raged far higher than those in Alberta, of course. He also demanded that Alberta pay the full bill and said "no free lunch." Rather bristling when it is considered that Alberta has paid $600 billion more into confederation than it has gotten back in services in this last few decades.
The head of the CBC has dared to claim that the state broadcaster is a "beacon of truth" while viewers continue to flee their programming and their ad revenues plummet. Morgan calls them out as a "beacon of BS."
Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland’s call for suggestions on how to "unlock" the savings of Canadians is reviewed. It is very dangerous language being used and responsible Canadians who have managed to save money for themselves during these times should be very concerned.
Finally, John Carpay of the Justice Center for Constitutional Freedoms is interviewed on the legalities of lockdowns and government restrictions. Carpay has since launched a formal legal action against the government of Alberta challenging the government’s restrictions upon citizens and businesses.
