In a mostly symbolic move on Saturday, the Arizona Republican Party approved resolutions censuring Arizona Republicans Governor Doug Ducey, former Senator Jeff Flake and Cindy McCain, widow of the late Senator John McCain.

Th censures came after McCain and Flake endorsed President Joe Biden in the 2020 election and McCain "condemned President Trump for his criticism of her husband and erroneously placed behaviors over actual presidential results."

The party said that Flake should join the Democrat party because he "condemned the Republican Party, rejected populism, and rejected the interests of the American people over globalist interests.”

According to the Arizona Republic, the party blamed Ducey’s COVID restrictions that "restrict personal liberties and force compliance to unconstitutional edicts" as the reason for his censure.

Biden was the first Democrat to win Arizona in over 20 years when he won the state in the 2020. McCain and Flake have both been critical of Trump and cut videos in support of Biden during his campaign.

After the censure was approved, McCain tweeted that "It is a high honor to be included in a group of Arizonans who have served our state and our nation so well...and who, like my late husband John, have been censured by the AZGOP. I’ll wear this as a badge of honor."
