Joint Base Andrews was put on lockdown Sunday night at approximately 9 PM after two intruders drove through a security checkpoint. According to officials, at least one of pair was armed.

One of the intruders was taken into custody without injury. As of publishing another individual was still being sought by authorities.

Joint Base Andrews said in a statement on Facebook, "At approximately 9 p.m. today, one vehicle drove through the security checkpoint and failed to adhere to commands of security personnel at the Main Gate on Joint Base Andrews, Maryland."

"The 316th Security Forces Group immediately deployed the barriers and stopped the vehicle. Two individuals fled the vehicle, and one was apprehended by 316th SFG. One individual remains at large."

"We can confirm that the individual who was apprehended had a weapon, but no shots have been fired. There is not an active shooter situation at Joint Base Andrews; however, the intruder’s whereabouts are currently unknown."

The main gate remains closed at the time of publishing and base traffic was being diverted to the Virginia Gate.

According to a follow up statement on the page, "Our Security Forces Defenders are continuing to conduct an initial sweep across the installation with base housing as our first priority. After initial sweeps, a deep search will occur across the base if the intruder has not yet been found."

"The Main Gate remains closed. We are slowly allowing vehicles through the Virginia Gate at this time, but everyone is encouraged to avoid the gate if travel on/off base is not necessary tonight."

A White House official told the Washington Post, Vice President Harris and four cabinet secretaries, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Housing Secretary Marcia Fudge, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan, returned to the base from a trip to Selma, Alabama, at approximately 9PM Sunday after participating in events commemorating "Bloody Sunday."

According to the outlet, President Joe Biden returned directly to the White House from Delaware via helicopter.

This is a developing story.
