The list of questions was cut down from around 40 to just five.
The Biden administration has watered down the vetting process for illegal immigrants from China, according to internal emails from the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Obtained by the Daily Caller, the April 2023 email that was sent to a large list of around 500 Border Patrol agents instructed the agents to reduce the number of interview questions for Chinese illegal immigrants who are apprehended.
The list of questions was cut down from 40 to just five. This allowed a fast-track of the release of Chinese illegal immigrants into the interior of the United States and has made it more difficult for CBP agents to identify national security threats.
An image of the email displays the five questions to be asked and if there are no "yes" responses given to any of them, "there is no requirement to further delay current processing pathway."
The simple questions regard military service, university education, POB region, employment, and political party. After being interviewed for the five questions, the Chinese migrants are released into the interior if they pass.
A former law enforcement official who provided the email told the Daily Caller that smugglers immediately adapted to the new guidelines and coached Chinese illegal immigrants on how to answer the new questions from the CBP.
"It was almost immediate where [the Chinese illegal immigrants] knew what to say and what not to say,” the official said.
JJ Carrell, a retired CBP deputy, said of the email after reading it over, “This policy change has accelerated the time it takes to process Chinese illegal immigrants — this doesn’t make America safer."
"The final result is that dangerous Chinese illegal immigrants will still be released into the US," Carrell continued. "I believe the government recognizes the threat of Chinese soldiers and spies that are pouring into America, and they want to try and identify these individuals. However, the same government does not want to stop the flow of illegal aliens or Chinese nationals — just the ‘bad ones,’ which is impossible.”
Carrell reported that agents would previously spend hours vetting a single Chinese illegal immigrant.
He said of his previous experience that when any Chinese illegal immigrant came into the country, they would be run through the Department of Homeland Security database for a criminal check and "nine times out of 10 these people have never been in America — so they [would] come back clean."
"I would then set that individual up for deportation and [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] would fly him or her back to China. Never in a million years would I then process that Chinese national and then just release them into America," Carrell added.
There have been over 300,000 illegal immigrant encounters with border patrol in December.
