Donald Trump Jr. remarked, "Of course, [CBP] waits until Saturday morning..."
The fiscal year 2023 United States Customs and Border Patrol (CPB) Data, released on Saturday morning, shows that the number of illegal immigrants in the US has skyrocketed since the Biden administration took over in 2021. In fact, recorded crossings at the US Southern border are at the highest they have ever been.
There were a record 2.4 million apprehensions at the US border in the 2023 fiscal year, per data released by US Customs and Border Protection. The fiscal year concluded in September.
This tops the last record of 2.3 million, which was set in the previous fiscal year.
Apprehensions of people who are on the terrorist watch list are nearly double last year's record total. According to the CBP data, 172 non-citizens who were on the terrorist watchlist were apprehended at the border, which was an increase from 2022's record year of 98. Before 2021 the highest number was six in 2018, and it has skyrocketed since the Biden administration took over.
Total encounters for enforcement officials was 434,562 higher than in 2022 for a total of 3,201,144 for FY2023. Since 2020, the total number of encounters has continued to increase, with 646,822 total encounters in 2020, 1,956,519 a year later, and 2,766,582 two years later.
Donald Trump Jr took to X to bash the department for attempting to bury the release. He wrote, "Of course, Customs and Border Patrol waits until Saturday morning to release the new disastrous border numbers so that no one is paying attention."
"So we understand what the invasion looks like," he continued. "267 terrorists (these were caught imagine how many got through?), 8M+ illegal aliens since Biden took office, 72,823 illegal special interest aliens (from countries that harbor terrorism) over the last 2 years."
"This is not an accident or a coincidence, this is deliberate by Democrats and it will destroy our country," Trump Jr. concluded.
In the wake of the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas, many Republicans have asked what the administration is doing to protect our borders from potential terrorists coming across our borders illegally.
Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas to know what it is doing about the "uptick in potential terrorist-linked illegal aliens" encountered at the southern border.
"I write with alarm regarding the uptick in potential terrorist-linked illegal aliens encountered at the southern border," Hawley wrote. "This development follows the barbaric attack perpetrated by Hamas terrorists on innocent American and Israeli civilians."
He said it was "imperative that [he] address this issue immediately to ensure the safety of American citizens, especially Jewish Americans, who are facing increased threats to their physical safety following the Hamas attack."
The administration has loosened restrictions on the southern border since taking office. In March of 2021, he appointed Vice President Kamala Harris to manage the border crisis where his administration made it known that anyone who was seeking asylum or those under 18 who arrived without adult supervision would be admitted.
Cities across the country, like New York, have been struggling to house the number of illegal immigrants coming in.
