Biden administration refuses to call for investigation into police response following Texas school shooting

"I know that right now authorities are working to piece together more details of what happened in Uvalde, so we won't prejudge the results from here at this time," Jean-Pierre said.

As more parents raise questions on why police did not enter Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Tex., sooner, the White House has refused to call for an investigation into the police response to the school shooting that killed 19 children and two adults.

"Does the President believe that there should be an investigation into the police response in this school shooting," one reporter asked.

"We've been watching the reporting on this, the President has the utmost respect, as you all know for the men and women of law enforcement," responded Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

She continued on to note that Biden had recently honored the memory of retired Buffalo police officer Aaron Salter, who was killed in the Buffalo supermarket shooting earlier this month alongside nine other victims.

"I know that right now authorities are working to piece together more details of what happened in Uvalde, so we won't prejudge the results from here at this time," Jean-Pierre continued. "It is always a good idea to look back and try to find any lessons we can learn, especially from tragedies like this, so that we can prevent them moving forward, including law enforcement responses."

On Tuesday, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos entered Uvalde’s Robb Elementary School, killing 19 children and two adults, all of which were in the same classroom. Investigators are still piecing together the course of events that occurred leading up to and including the massacre.

Parents that gathered outside the school shortly after they were informed of the news frantically yelled at the officers to do something. Ramos was reportedly inside the building for at least 40 minutes before US Border Patrol agents stormed into the classroom and shot Ramos dead.

One mother who attempted to rush into the school was handcuffed by federal marshals, who are under the jurisdiction of the Biden administration’s Department of Justice.

Parents say that they arrived at the scene of the school while police were still standing outside of the building, with one witness who lost a daughter saying that bystanders nearly organized to rush into the building all at once because law enforcement was "unprepared."

"Let's just rush in because the cops aren't doing anything like they are supposed to," Witness Juan Carranza said. "More could have been done."

Angeli Rose Gomez, who drove 40 miles to the school upon hearing the news of the shooting, said that when she arrived, "The police were doing nothing. They were just standing outside the fence. They weren't going in there or running anywhere."
