The Biden administration is reportedly planning an "overhaul" of its Covid strategy as the Ukraine crisis takes center stage. Meetings were held privately on Wednesday in which Biden aides discussed plans to get the nation out of the pandemic era.
The new plans, ABC reports, will likely address the more than 900,000 casualties attributed to Covid, while giving voice to the idea that the threat is waning. This threat reduction will be attributed to vaccination efforts, booster shots, and therapeutic treatments.
According to ABC News, "the White House on Wednesday began working behind the scenes with some of the nation's most prominent pandemic experts to game out the various paths the virus could take to ensure the government is prepared."
Biden's Covid coordinator Jeff Zeints led the group, and discussions concerned potential near-future scenarios and what they might look like that the public policy level.
"We're moving toward a time when COVID isn't a crisis but is something we can protect against and treat," commented Zients, the coordinator of the Biden administration's Covid Response Team.
However, one person in the group, who is anonymous at this time, did comment, "There's no scenario where we say 'oh my gosh, let's go back to normal.'"
Another anonymous attendee of the meeting commented in a similar vein, "We've seen things [transmission and mortality rates] come down before only to be surprised."
It has been shown, however, that the American public has grown increasingly frustrated with the Biden administration's handling of COVID-related issues. As such, it is thought that the team is brainstorming and looking for viable solutions.
