President Joe Biden and Attorney Merrick General are again bringing up the riot and protests of January 6, 2021, at the Capitol after Biden’s electoral certification in Congress was disrupted by protesters four years ago, and they don’t want anyone to forget it. Since the riot and protest occurred, some 1,600 people have been prosecuted by the Department of Justice.

To that end, Biden wrote an article in the Washington Post, or at least the Washington Post ran an article with the president's byline. "We cannot allow the truth to be lost," Biden said, later adding that "An unrelenting effort has been underway to rewrite — even erase — the history of that day."

"In time," said the official account of the president on X, "there will be Americans who didn't witness the Jan. 6 riot firsthand but will learn about it from footage and testimony of that day, from what is written in history books and from the truth we pass on to our children. We cannot allow the truth to be lost."

Likewise, Garland put out a statement to mark the day, and falsely claimed that five police officers “lost their lives in the line of duty as a result of what happened to them on January 6, 2021.” Garland said, "January 6 was a violent attack on the law enforcement officers defending the Capitol, and it was an unprecedented attack on a cornerstone of our system of government — the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to the next."

In reality, only one person is known to have died on January 6, and that is Ashli Babbitt, a protester shot dead by Capitol Police, per National Review. One police officer died of a stroke the day after the riot, and four others died of suicide in the days and months following January 6.

Additionally, the Democratic Whip in the House of Representatives, Rep. Katherine Clark, posted the same false claim, saying “We remember the lives of the fallen and injured officers.” A community note was published on her post in response that said, “No police officers were killed during the January 6th riot at the Capitol.”

Biden and the Democrats have spent four years in office harping on the Capitol riot of January 6, 2021, and Garland's DOJ has prosecuted some 1,600 Americans in relation to their alleged participation. However, Trump has talked about granting clemency to many of those that he says have been "greatly punished."
