Biden makes first-ever appearance in White House press briefing room, warns of potential violence in 2024 election

President Joe Biden, for the first time during his presidency, appeared in the White House briefing room. When asked about the coming election, he offered concerns that the election may result in violence. He told reporters on Friday that he was not sure if the election will be "peaceful" and suggested that the things GOP nominee Donald Trump has said are "dangerous" ahead of November.

Biden responded to NPR White House correspondent Tamara Keith. She asked Biden in the briefing, "Do you have confidence that it will be a free and fair election and that it will be peaceful?"

The president responded, "I'm confident it will be free and fair. I don't know whether it will be peaceful. The things that Trump has said, and the things that he said last time ... when he didn't like the outcome of the election were very dangerous."

Biden then pointed to the debate with vice-presidential-candidate JD Vance, saying "Have you noticed? I noticed that the vice-presidential Republican candidate [Ohio Sen. JD Vance] did not say he’d accept the outcome of the election and hasn’t even accepted the outcome of the last election. So, I’m concerned about what they’re going to do."

The appearance from Biden was unexpected, according to the New York Post, as many seats in the press room were empty. A group of reporters asked questions dealing with the conflict in the Middle East.

“I only can hope that it’s going to be free and fair, and I think in this state it will be and I hope in every state it will be. And I think we’re going to do very well,” Biden added in his remarks. As Biden was leaving the briefing room on Friday, one reporter asked if he would consider hopping back into the race for president. Biden answered, "I'm back in," to many laughs.
