President Joe Biden, who spent his Thanksgiving holiday on tiny Nantucket island off the coast of Massachusetts, was spotted unmasked while shopping despite the store requiring patrons to mask. Nantucket also has a local mandate for indoors.
The video shows Biden unmasked, with his face mask hanging below his chin, covering neither mouth nor nose, while others in the shop are masked and a giant sign reads "Required Face Coverings."
This isn't the first time that Biden has been caught unmasked in locations where masks are required. In October, he was spotted in an upscale DC restaurant without a mask, as was First Lady Jill unmasked.
Biden was shopping in Murray's Toggery Shop, according to Fox News, on Saturday. The White House reports that Biden was drinking a milkshake at the time.
Reporters approached the President as he sipped his milkshake, walking from one shop to the next, inquiring as to his view on the latest COVID-19 variant, Omicron. Biden ignored them.
Biden has pressed Americans to mask and has instituted a mask requirement on public transportation across the country. In the spring, he told Americans that wearing face masks was a "patriotic responsibility."
School children are required to mask at public schools across the country, and children as young as two are forced to wear face masks on public transit.
The new, Omicron variant of the coronavirus made news over the weekend, with Biden instituting restrictions on flights coming from several nations in Africa. The variant was first discovered in South Africa.
