Every year, the White House sends a report to Congress revealing the number of staffers, their occupations, and salaries. The 2022 annual report shows that the Biden White House employs eighty-six fewer staffers than it did in 2021.
According to the report, 474 people currently work for Biden at the White House, down from 560 in 2021.
The current administration lost staffers in its first year at a much higher rate than its predecessors.
As the Washington Examiner reports, former President Donald Trump's White House team shrank by just five, going from 377 to 372. Barack Obama lost nineteen in his first year.
When comparing turnover rate, however, the Biden administration's first year is essentially even with that of Obama, at 29 and 28 percent, respectively.
White House officials suggested that the majority of staff loss could be attributed to reductions in nonpermanent staffers, such as the thirty-six member Supreme Court Commission.
Biden is expected to out-pace previous administrations when it comes to salaries as well. According to the Examiner, by the end of his four years in office, Biden will have paid out $192,803,206 to White House employees. That's nearly $30 million more than Trump, and $4 million more than Obama.
This year, the Biden administration paid out $46,759,727, which while lower than last year, is still higher than in six of Obama's eight years, and all four of Trump's.
Biden's communications team grew from thirty-eight to forty members, although it notably lost now former press secretary Jen Psaki.
The White House will also be losing Communications Director Kate Bedingfield, who announced her resignation on Wednesday, set to take effect later this month.
