Political personality and commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been detained by ICE in Louisiana, according to a report from TMZ. He is currently being held in an ICE detention facility after being taken into custody at the airport. Yiannopoulos has ties to Kanye West, and the musician was set to perform in New Orleans on Friday evening.

The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement Friday, “On August 27, ICE arrested Milo Yiannopoulos, an illegal alien from the United Kingdom, at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) in Kenner, Louisiana. Yiannopoulos legally entered the country on May 14, 2019, through New York City, New York. He chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws. Yiannopoulos was issued a final order of removal by an Immigration Judge on July 22, after failing to show up for his immigration hearing. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal.”

"Being in detention is a choice. We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $3,000 and a free flight to self-deport now. We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return," DHS added.

Yiannopoulos, from Britain, has remained a controversial figure in politics for year now. He worked for Breitbart from 2014 to 2017 but resigned after clips of the commentator went viral where he stated that sexual relationships between a 13-year-old and an older man could be consensual. He later resigned from the outlet after backlash.

In 2022, he worked as an intern for Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and also helped to orchestrate a dinner with West, Nick Fuentes, and President Donald Trump. In a post to social media after the meal, Trump said that West "unexpectedly showed up with three of his friends, whom I knew nothing about. We had dinner on Tuesday evening with many members present on the back patio. The dinner was quick and uneventful. They then left for the airport.” At the time, Fuentes was reportedly not on the guest list.

Yiannopoulos later worked with West when the musician launched his short-lived presidential run in 2024. Although Yiannopoulos stopped working for West for a period of time when the musician launched an adult entertainment studio under his Yeezy brand, as of 2026 he is West's spokesperson and legal liaison.

Although Yiannopoulos was married to a man, in 2021, he declared himself to be an "ex-gay" and that he "demoted" his husband to "housemate." He is currently going through a heated divorce battle with his estranged husband John Campbell. At the time, he said he was devoting his life to Catholicism.
