According to reports, it appears that the world's big social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, have not taken any steps to block information coming out of official Russian sources in the wake of that country's invasion of Ukraine.

Critics are calling the posts from Russian accounts "propaganda."

According to Fox News, Twitter refused to comment on the issue after they had someone reach out to them. The Meta Group, which owns Facebook and Instagram, has not responded as of the time of this writing.

Fox goes on to report that one Russian government account on Twitter "has nearly 380,000 followers and regularly posts Kremlin talking points laden with Putin fanfare." It's worth noting that this is a blue-check verified Twitter account in question.

"On Thursday, the account posted over 20 tweets defending Russia's invasion of Ukraine, claiming in one that, 'The purpose of this operation is to protect people who, for 8 years now, have been facing genocide perpetrated by the Kyiv regime.'"

The "President of Russia" account has even more followers, approximately 1.2 million at this time.  This account talks about the "Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics" saying they have "signed a treaty of friendship and cooperation."

The areas of Donetsk and Lugansk are still officially considered by most of the rest of the world to be parts of Ukraine.
