The Bloc Quebecois believes that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should step aside from his position while he is being investigated by the ethics commissioner for conflict of interest.

The party leader, Yves-François Blanchet proposed that Trudeau should leave his responsibilities to Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland for the time being.

“I think the prime minister must step aside and leave the place… the function, responsibilities to the deputy prime minister and if it does happen we will offer our full cooperation to the prime minister,” said Bloc Quebecois leader, “because for the time being he cannot be considered as being qualified to keep doing the job.”

The investigation follows the Trudeau government providing WE Charity with a sole-source contract to distribute $900 million for a Canada Student Service Grant.

The charity has since admitted to paying Trudeau’s family members thousands of dollars to speak at events. The money has been received by his wife, mother and brother.
