Famed Watergate reporter Bob Woodward says in his new book "War" that President Joe Biden deeply regretted appointing Merrick Garland as his administration’s attorney general after Garland appointed a special prosecutor to dig into Hunter Biden and did not do enough to ease the younger Biden's legal troubles. He also criticizes former President Barack Obama for caving to Russian President Vladimir Putin over Crimea.

The book is a collection of anecdotes about former President Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden. The book is scheduled for release on Oct. 15, The Hill reported, whle providing excerpts of the book provided by CNN and The Washington Post.

Although the Trump campaign has disputed Woodward’s contentions about the former president’s conversations with Putin, much of the book focuses on the Biden presidency, with often humorous recollections of Biden’s comments on cabinet secretaries and foreign leaders.

Woodward says that Biden was adamant that he “should never have picked” Merrick Garland to be his attorney general. Woodward says that Biden privately expressed regret that he had appointed Garland as chief prosecutor and the head of the Department of Justice.

Woodward reports that Biden was apparently unhappy that Garland did nothing to extricate Hunter Biden from his legal woes and appointed a special prosecutor to adjudicate his son’s case. “Should never have picked Garland,” Biden said, according to Woodward. “This is never going to f*cking go away.”

Hunter Biden pleaded guilty in a Los Angeles court last month to three felony tax evasion charges and 6 misdemeanors. Immediately following his plea, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated Joe Biden’s plan that he would not pardon his son. Biden is in office until the next president is sworn in.

Woodward also records that Biden did not think former President Barack Obama, for whom Biden served as vice president, considered Putin to be a serious threat. “Barack never took Putin seriously,” Biden alleged said.

Woodward says that Biden was specifically talking about Obama’s reaction to the 2014 Russian invasion of Crimea, during which Russia annexed it back into the Russian federation. Biden thought that Obama could have issued a much stronger objection to Putin’s aggressive move.

“They f*cked up in 2014,” Biden commented to a friend, according to Woodward’s notes. “That’s why we are here. We f*cked it up. Barack never took Putin seriously.”

“We did nothing. We gave Putin a license to continue!” Biden said. “Well, I’m revoking his f*cking license!”
