"Arresting illegal aliens who crash the border...illegally...is deemed 'anti-immigrant' by Arizona Gov Katie 'Veto' Hobbs," the BPU wrote. "Let that sink in for a moment."
Her decision was criticized by the Border Patrol Union, which represents thousands of agents who are dealing with the crisis firsthand.
"Arresting illegal aliens who crash the border...illegally...is deemed 'anti-immigrant' by Arizona Gov Katie 'Veto' Hobbs," the BPU wrote. "Let that sink in for a moment."
"Politicians will not expel likely future voters," Elon Musk replied. "Just a matter of incentives."
On Monday, Hobbs released a video in which she explained her decision, and then pressed the "veto" stamp on the bill.
"Anti-immigrant legislation to score cheap political points has no place in our state," she said. "This bill does not secure our border. On the contrary, it will be harmful for communities and business in our state, and a burden for law enforcement personnel."
Hobbs went on to acknowledge the fact that Arizonans are feeling "frustration" due to the Biden administration's failure to solve the crisis at the southern border, but claimed that SB1231 was "not the solution."
Those at the Border Patrol Union were far from the only people to go after Hobbs.
"The Legislature did its job to protect our citizens, but Governor Hobbs failed to do hers," Republican State Senator and bill sponsor Janae Shamp said in a statement. "Vetoing the Arizona Border Invasion Act is a prime example of the chaos Hobbs is unleashing in our state while perpetuating this open border crisis as Biden's accomplice."
"Arizonans want and deserve safe communities," she added. "Our local, county, and state law enforcement officers are pleading for help, and they support this legislation to protect our citizens. Their blood, sweat, and tears shed while trying to keep our communities safe from the staggering number of border-related crimes hitting our state will not be in vain ... This veto is a slap in the face to them, Arizona's victims of border-related crimes, and other citizens who will inevitably feel the wrath of this border invasion in one way, shape, or form at the hands of Hobbs and Biden."
