Brampton's mayor Patrick Brown tweeted on Sunday that Ontario Premier Doug Ford needs to allow outdoor patios to open over the summer to help the beleaguered restaurant industry.
"Outdoor patios are very low risk," tweeted Brown. He continued:
"Outdoor transmission according to the Ontario Science Table is rare. With the good weather upon us, opening restaurant patios is a great way to support a battered hospitality industry which has been hit hard by #COVID19." Brown then tagged @RestaurantsCA, a Canadian association of restaurants.
The province of Ontario continues to be under some of the world's more strict lockdown rules, according to CTV News.
National and even provincial land borders are blockaded on all sides, with only essential traffic allowed through. Recreational camping has also now been included on the list of prohibited activities.
While the stay-at-home order is slated to be lifted on this coming Wednesday, the rest of the province's stringent lockdown measures will still remain in effect until at least June 16, including the ban on indoor and even outdoor dining.
