A 7-month-old baby girl is dead after being struck in the head by a stray bullet while out with her family in Brooklyn on Wednesday afternoon.

Police sources told CBS News that the child was being pushed in a stroller in Bushwick at Moore and Humboldt streets just after 1:15 pm. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The NYPD is searching for two men who were seen riding on a scooter and fleeing up Homboldt. The driver had dreadlocks and was wearing a light-colored sweatshirt, while his passenger was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt.

Sources told the New York Post that the child’s mother heard gunshots and rushed into a nearby bodega, discovering blood when she looked down into the stroller. Vincent Valcissel, 63, told the outlet, "I was in the supermarket and coming out with my sandwich. I heard a commotion and a shot. Once you hear shots in the air, you duck. I saw a girl on the floor with her baby."

At a press conference for an unrelated matter on Wednesday afternoon, Mamdani said, "It is a tragedy that this baby was shot and killed, and soon after this press conference I’ll be joining our police commissioner to brief the media and the public. Our hearts break for this family."
