It has just been revealed that the US Air Force has discharged 27 people after they refused to get vaccinated for COVID-19. It's believed that these 27 are the first service members to be removed under the vaccine mandate imposed by the armed forces.

Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek announced Monday that these personnel were all in their first term and were low-ranking, younger individuals.

The AP reports that "Several officials from the other services said they believe that so far only the Air Force has gotten this far along in the process and discharged people over the vaccine refusal."

None of the 27 personnel claimed a medical or religious exemption. Therefore, they were "formally removed from service for failure to obey an order," per the AP.

According to data from the Air Force, over 1,000 airmen have refused vaccination, with 4,700 seeking religious exemptions.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
