Former Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer is set to endorse Pierre Poilievre in his bid to become the new leader, per a campaign source. Andrew Scheer served as Conservative leader for the 2019 federal election and was then succeeded by Erin O'Toole, who was kicked out as leader just one month ago.

Although he failed to defeat Justin Trudeau, Scheer reduced the Liberals to a minority government and held the best electoral record out of the past three Conservative campaigns.

Scheer lauded independent media in his farewell speech, including The Post Millennial. "Please stay involved. Be bold. Think. Challenge the mainstream media. Don't take the left-wing media narrative as fact. Please check out smart, independent, objective organizations like The Post Millennial or True North," he said. "There are other places to get news. Let's stop being the silent majority."

Likewise, Poilievre has been a vocal advocate for independent media and conservative ideals. In his announcement video, Poilievre outlined his ideas for the Conservative Party and Canada. "And when people speak up, the powerful clamp down. They silence; they slander anyone who dares dissent, including with laws censoring what you see and say online."

"Using COVID as a political opportunity, the Trudeau Government has attacked small businesses, truckers, and other hardworking Canadians. They target law-abiding hunters and farmers, while letting gangsters and gun smugglers run free," he continued.

"See, here's the problem. Trudeau thinks he's your boss. He's got it backwards. You are the boss. That's why I'm running for Prime Minister to put you back in charge of your life," Poilievre said. "Together, we will make Canadians the freest people on earth with freedom to build a business without red tape or heavy tax."

"Freedom from the invisible thief of inflation. Freedom to raise your kids with your values. Freedom to make your own health and vaccine choices. Freedom to speak without fear and freedom to worship God in your own way," Poilievre continued, showing support for the Freedom Convoy.

Poilievre is currently the sole declared candidate in the Conservative leadership race, which is set to take place on September 10, 2022.

Since stepping down as leader, Scheer remained the MP for Regina—Qu'Appelle. He has held his seat since 2004 and served as speaker of the House of Commons from 2011 to 2015. From there, he ran for leader in 2017 and served until 2020.
