The crash occurred near Boca Raton Regional Airport and involved a small plane, and it went down at around 10 am local time. Bodies of some of the victims were found on the train tracks in the area of the crash. Three people were traveling on the plane at the time of the crash, the FAA as well as the local police have said, per ABC News. All three aboard the plane were killed, and one man in a car that was in the vicinity of the crash suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Roads have been closed near the crash starting at the end of Military Trail and 19th street and there is an exit off of I-95 that is closed. After take-off the plane was reporting mechanical issues, according to the outlet. The outlet reported that the aircraft appeared to be a Cessna 310R and was headed to Tallahassee International Airport before the crash. The plane was only in the air for about 20 minutes before the crash.
According to Flightradar24, the aircraft was circling around in the air after it stopped heading towards Tallahassee.
Users on social media shared clips of the crash site, with clouds of smoke rising from the incident. One wrote, "Possible plane crash right outside my office today. Shook the whole building. Unfortunately I'm certain lives were lost here today."
Boca Raton Police posted a traffic alert for the public to avoid the area on X, "N. Military Trail is closed between NW 19th St. and Butts Rd. due to small aircraft crash. I-95 overpass at Glades Rd. is also closed eastbound and westbound. Avoid the Area."
Lt. Karl Richards with Boca Raton Fire Rescue said that the crash pushed a car onto the railroad tracks on impact. There were several small fires at the crash site after the incident occurred. Per NBC6, aerial photographs of the crash site showed debris on the highway as well as the railroad tracks near where the plane crashed.
