BLM Chicago maintained that it was on the side of the Palestinians, and that Israel was to blame.
While the group appeared to acknowledge that the post in question had gone too far, leaders maintained that they were on the side of the Palestinians, and that Israel was to blame.
"Yesterday we sent out msgs that we aren’t proud of," BLM Chicago said in a post on X. "We stand with Palestine & the people who will do what they must to live free. Our hearts are with, the grieving mothers, those rescuing babies from rubble, who are in danger of being wiped out completely."
There was no mention of the hundreds of Israelis who had been indiscriminately massacred by Hamas.
The post in question showed an image of a paraglider with a Palestinian flag attached to his parachute. "That is all that it is!" was the caption.
Before long, users utilized X's Community Notes feature to point out important context.
"The Palestinian terrorist group Hamas used armed gun men on Paragliders to enter a rave in Israel to kill over 260 innocent people partying," the note read, adding that, "previous to this incident, Palestinians were not know[n] for paragliding."
While the post was up, it was widely criticized by users for its blatant, if perhaps not intentional, reference to Saturday's music festival massacre.
"Now is a really great time, if you or your organization supported BLM, to repent of that," said James Lindsay. "Admit you got sucked in and made a mistake."
"Massive corporations funded and stood behind BLM," added Tim Pool. "They ignored the warning signs of corruption and depravity."
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
