Dr. Bonnie Henry announced that BC's mask mandate will be repealed at 12:01 am Friday.
In the past few weeks, provinces across Canada have begun reducing and removing COVID safety measures.
On Thursday, British Columbia's provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced that the province would be moving away from many of the restrictions that have been in place.
Among the restrictions being lifted are mask mandates. Dr. Henry said that while masks will still be required in "healthcare settings," they will no longer be mandatory in most public spaces.
The new rules will take effect at 12:01 am on March 11.
Dr. Henry also announced that effective April 8, British Columbia will be doing away with its vaccine passport system. Businesses will also be allowed to transition from COVID safety plans to a "communicable disease plan."
She stressed that while the restrictions are being lifted, "we're not fully out of this yet," and as such British Columbians should still exercise caution.
