Chiefs star receiver Xavier Worthy was charged with assault of a family or household member and reportedly arrested on Friday evening.

According to Fox26 reporter Will Kunkel, "Former Texas star WR and Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy was arrested Friday Night in Williamson County, TX." The reporter added that the charges included "assault against a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation."

The arrest comes just weeks after Worthy ended his rookie season at Super Bowl 59 with two touchdowns. In a statement, the Chiefs said, "We are aware and gathering information," according to the New York Post.

Worthy, from California, played football for the Texas Longhorns before joining the Chiefs as a first round 2024 Draft pick in the NFL. More information was not immediately available.

Despite his young age of 21, Worthy is engaged to Tia Jones after proposing to the sprinter last July. They have also bought a home together, it was not immediately made known who was the victim of the assault.

There were four Chiefs football players arrested last season. Rashee Rice, another receiver who had just had his rookie season, was arrested on an assault charge that was later dropped as well as charges related to a high-speed car chase and hit-and-run.

Although Rice has not been suspended yet, two Chiefs receivers may now face suspension in accordance with NFL policy surrounding criminal arrest.

Last week, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said of the players, per Sports Illustrated, "The last two years, we've added two great receivers. It's a shame Rashee (Rice) got hurt because I think he had a chance to be a top-10 receiver, and then the progress (Xavier) Worthy made last year, I think those guys will be a dynamic combination. We'll see if we can get Hollywood back. But again, receiver will be a position too that we never shy away from.”

During his rookie season, Worthy made an appearance in 17 games, catching 59 passes and getting six touchdowns. He also rushed 20 times, gaining 104 yards and got three touchdowns.
