This comes the same day Governor Cuomo held another press call where he refused to step down.
After losing the confidence of a majority of state-level legislators, the controversies surrounding Andrew Cuomo have hit a national level of attention. Earlier today, Press Secretary Jen Psaki made it clear that President Biden is supportive of a full independent investigation. Yet the statements stopped short of asking for resignation.
However Democrats in the US Senate are ready to speak their minds.
Senate Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Kristen Gillibrand released the following statement.
In an odd rebuttal from Governor Cuomo, he responded to the calls for his resignation by calling himself a victim of “cancel culture.”
This was his response to a set of different allegations. The first being six different women coming forward with claims of sexual misconduct in various forms on Cuomo's part. The second being a year-long scandal surrounding how the New York Governor covered up nursing home deaths at the onset of the pandemic. Recently it has been uncovered that care homes for people with disabilities also had to contend with COVID people being sent in.
Both New York Attorney General Letitia James as well as the New York Assembly are conducting investigations into these matters.
