Georgia Republican Senator David Perdue will enter into quarantine after someone on his team tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Tuesday.
"Senator Perdue was notified that he came into close contact with someone o the campaign who tested positive for COVID-19." "Both Senator Perdue * his wife tested *NEGATIVE* but... they will quarantine." Talk about bad timing. The GA run-off election is in *5 DAYS.*", says the tweet.
The Perdue campaign released the following statement: "This morning, Senator Perdue was notified that he came into close contact with someone on the campaign who tested positive for COVID-19."
"Both Senator Perdue and his wife tested negative today, but following his doctor's recommendations and in accordance with CDC guidelines, they will quarantine. The Senator and his wife have been tested regularly throughout the campaign, and the team will continue to follow CDC guidelines. Further information will be provided when available."
There is some concern that the fact that Perdue will no longer be able to travel will negatively affect his campaign, as the runoff elections are this coming Tuesday against Democratic opponent Jon Ossoff.
Planned rallies, including those with standing President Donald Trump, will have to be cancelled.
