"Homeland Security Investigations are on the ground in Minneapolis right now conducting a massive investigation on childcare and other rampant fraud."

The Department of Homeland Security is on the ground in Minneapolis conducting a mass investigation into alleged childcare fraud after an investigative report from independent reporter Nick Shirley showed a number of childcare facilities without children and blacked out windows being run by those in the Somali community of Minnesota

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem posted a clip to X of Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) agents speaking to a Somali man in front of a reported daycare facility.

"Homeland Security Investigations are on the ground in Minneapolis right now conducting a massive investigation on childcare and other rampant fraud. More coming," Noem said. The agents were questioning the man in the video about different aspects of the daycare business they were standing in front of, including some about how paperwork is documented as well as how children are transported to the facility.

Shirley's video report, which has racked up over 110 million views on X as well as over a million on YouTube, has sparked calls for heavy investigation into childcare facilities in Minnesota as well as other entities that are able to use government subsidies. Many of the allegations of fraud have been linked to those in Minnesota's Somali community.

After Shirley's report, FBI Director Kash Patel said that the Trump administration is aware of fraud schemes taking place in Minnesota and has "surged personnel and investigative resources to Minnesota to dismantle large-scale fraud schemes exploiting federal programs" amid the report from Shirley.

Patel said that there have been dozens of convictions in the "Feeding Our Future" fraud case in Minnesota, which has also involved many in the Minnesota Somali community. Many have called for accountability for state lawmakers in Minnesota over the reports of fraud and Elon Musk has called for the prosection of Tim Walz because of the report released by Shirley.
