Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced today that restrictions on gatherings will be amended to allow playgrounds to open after facing public backlash.

In a tweet, Ford stated that Ontario's restrictions "were always intended to stop large gatherings where spread can happen," but that playgrounds will now be allowed to open. "Play outside safely," he said.

Ford reiterated that limits on outdoor gatherings elsewhere will "still be enforced."

The move comes after the government received immense backlash over new restrictions announced on Friday that banned almost all outdoor activities.
