Elon Musk's X Corp has filed a limited objection in the selling off of any X accounts controlled by Alex Jones as well as Infowars to keep the left-leaning satire site, The Onion, from purchasing Infowars.

The filing from X Corp states, "X Corp. objects to the sale, assignment, or transfer of: (a) the Infowars X account (https://x.com/infowars); (b) the Banned.Video X account (https://x.com/BANNEDdotVIDEO); (c) The War Room X account (https://x.com/WarRoomShow); (d) the Alex Jones X Account (https://x.com/RealAlexJones) (the 'Jones X Account'); and (e) any other accounts maintained by FSS or Jones on X (collectively, the 'X Accounts')."

Jones posted a screenshot of the filing on the platform and said, "BREAKING: Elon Musk's X Corp. Objects To The Sale or Transfer of Any X Accounts Maintained By Alex Jones or InfoWars In Court Filing."

The filing from X Corp argues, "Accounts on X are governed by the X Terms of Service ('TOS'). Under both the Prepetition TOS and the Current TOS, all right, title, and interest in and to X Corp.’s services, including X Corp.’s various websites, SMS, APIs, email notifications, applications, buttons, widgets, ads, commerce services, and other covered services are X Corp.’s 'exclusive property.'"

The filing continues, "In contrast to the Services, the account holders own the Content (as defined in the TOS) they submit, post, or display on or through the Services; however, the Content is distinct and separate from the Services."'

It later adds, "While X Corp. has granted account holders, such as Jones and FSS, a license to use the Services, such license is non-assignable, both under the terms of the [terms of service] and applicable non-bankruptcy law (i.e., as a personal services contract), and the Trustee cannot sell, assign, or otherwise transfer such license absent X Corp.’s consent."

This comes as The Onion has made attempts to purchase Infowars and its various assets as Jones has been going through bankruptcy court after he was sued for defamation by families of the victims in the Sandy Hook shooting. Jones at one point claimed that the victims were actors meant to gin up support for gun control, however, he later recanted the statements and apologized.

Earlier this month, amid the bankruptcy case, The Onion’s efforts to purchase Infowars were slowed down when Texas bankruptcy Judge Christopher M. Lopez said, “Nobody should feel comfortable with the results of the auction” where Infowars was purchased and pushed to have more transparency in the case.

X Corp then filed a motion to appear in the bankruptcy case, indicating the company’s interest.
