BREAKING UPDATE: FBI thwarts ISIS-connected Halloween terror attack in Dearborn, Michigan: report

FBI Director Kash Patel announced on Friday that the Bureau has thwarted a potential terror attack in Michigan over Halloween weekend. The plan for the attack reportedly had a connection to ISIS.

"This morning the FBI thwarted a potential terrorist attack and arrested multiple subjects in Michigan who were allegedly plotting a violent attack over Halloween weekend," Patel said. "More details to come. Thanks to the men and women of FBI and law enforcement everywhere standing guard 24/7 and crushing our mission to defend the homeland."



NBC News reported that sources familiar with the investigation said that there were five people taken into custody in Dearborn as well as Inkstar, Michigan and recovered weapons. Those that were taken into custody had discussed carrying out some type of terror attack around Halloween, something they referred to has the “pumpkin day,” officials said, and the plan for the attack was connected to ISIS extremism. The target of the attack was not immediately clear, officials said.

According to the Detroit Free Press, in Dearborn, Michigan at around 4 am Friday, there were loud noises heard by neighbors on Middlepoint Street near the inter section of Tireman and Wyoming avenues.

One woman told the outlet that after her husband let the dog out at around 4 am and 30 minutes later thy heard a loud bang, followed by several loud noises. When they looked outside, SWAT, FBI, and police officers were present. Holly Kemp, 36, told the outlet that the home where the developments were taking place had seen two men move in over the summer.

Another couple in the neighborhood spoke to the press about what they witnessed, with May Mokdad and her husband, Matt Abraham, saying they heard what sounded like six gunshots in the morning around 6:15 am. The home where the incident took place, Mokdad said, would sometimes have men pulling up in a truck and entering through a side door. She added, "You don't see them out at all."



Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer posted to X, “This morning, I was briefed by Director Patel on the thwarted potential terrorist attack in our state. As details continue to develop, I am grateful for the swift action of the FBI and MSP protecting Michiganders.”
