Organizers of the freedom convoy that has gridlocked Ottawa for the last two weeks held a press conference on Wednesday, where they provided updates on the movement's financial situations following the seizure of $9 million by fundraising site GoFundMe.
JCCF lawyer representing the truckers Keith Wilson spoke of a "couple very important things happened," including news on the injunction by Ontario Supreme Court Justice Hugh McLean ordered that protestors stop honking for ten days.
Wilson said that the convoy had extended an olive branch to the citizens of Ottawa, and that they agreed to stop using airhorns. "They did it because they thought it was a kind gesture. we didn't need a court order... we did it because it was time to stop using the airhorns," said Wilson.
"Very importantly, during the three or four-hour proceeding before justice McClean in the court of Ontario, Justice McClean, who is one of the most senior judges on the bench.., was crystal clear in a number of instances during the hearing, that these truckers have a lawful right to be here, to protest," said Wilson, who said that they had the right both "under common law and the Charter."
"I'd also like to clarify, some politicians have been throwing this dangerous term of sedition or insurrection. At no time has anyone involved in the core group of the freedom convoy asked for anything other than their charter rights to be restored, the rule of law be respected, and the mandates that arbitrarily discriminate against them and usurp their charter rights be stopped.
"Their goal is for all Canadians to have their rights back, full stop. They recognize that there's democratic process," said Wilson,
"This spin by some of the mainstream media that somehow those involved in the freedom convoy are seeking more than i described is completely inaccurate.
"With respect to bitcoin, what we've witnessed.. what the world has witnessed is the power of government to manipulate the flows of peoples hard-earned dollars, to advance a government's objectives and to seek to defeat the will of individuals in their democratic process.
"I have been following bitcoin very closely, it's a decentralized platform for people to exchange their hard-earned value with someone else for theirs," Wilson continued.
"It bypasses the constraints and arbitrary controls of government. This is the perfect example of why fiat currency is in trouble.
"We're likely going to double the amount that freedom-loving people" have donated, Wilson concluded.
