"This crucial ruling protects our brave men and women in the field. We will not stop fighting bad laws like these in California and across the country," Bondi wrote.
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on Thursday that the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has blocked California from enforcing its law that would unmask ICE agents and other federal law enforcement in the state.
Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote, "The 9th Circuit has now issued a FULL stay blocking California’s ban on masks for federal law enforcement agents. Law enforcement officers risk their lives for us, only to be doxxed by radical anti-police activists. Unacceptable. This crucial ruling protects our brave men and women in the field. We will not stop fighting bad laws like these in California and across the country."
This comes after a district court judge ruled for the Trump administration earlier in the month, also placing the mask ban law on pause. Judge Christina Snyder from the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California ruled on February 9 that because the law "does not apply equally to all law enforcement officers in the state, it unlawfully discriminates against federal officers. Because such discrimination violates the Supremacy Clause, the Court is constrained to enjoin the facial covering prohibition."
First Assistant US Attorney for the Central District of California wrote, "The state of California needs to familiarize itself with the Supremacy Clause. It does not have the authority to regulate federal agents. This is another key win for the Justice Department."
