Top Republicans are calling for the impeachment and even the criminal prosecution of Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The issue at hand is the alleged cover-up of the number of deaths that actually occurred in nursing homes across NY State, and also the alleged gross incompetence that possibly could even have caused some of those deaths.

The chair of New York's Republican party Nick Langworthy has called for an investigation as well:

"He needs to be held accountable for this decision," Langworthy said. "This is one of the most serious errors ever committed. If last spring or early summer he had just said, 'We've made a huge mistake here' - which is something he's incapable of. That day, he didn't take any accountability. That's the true sense of a leader. Can they be accountable for their own actions and their own mistakes?"

New York State Senator Robert Ortt called for Cuomo's emergency powers to be revoked.

"After this report, it is clear the Majority must convene a special session and join us in doing so immediately,” Ortt said.

NY State Attorney General Letitia James' office finished its report last month, and the results were damning, indicating that as many as 50 percent of nursing home deaths may have gone unreported.

The New York Post published a story on Thursday. where they revealed Cuomo's top aide, Melissa DeRosa, was recorded apologizing to her fellow Democrats in Sept. of 2020  for withholding proper data from them, saying that they feared that the true numbers would have been used against them by federal authorities.

Longworthy commented:

"He needs to be held accountable for this decision. This is one of the most serious errors ever committed. If last spring or early summer he had just said, 'We've made a huge mistake here' - which is something he's incapable of. That day, he didn't take any accountability.
