The House of Representatives has passed a bill to fund the US government after there has been a brief partial government shutdown since last week. The bill passed 217 to 214 and it will now go to the president to be signed.

The vote, as the motion was passed, stood at 196 yea votes from Republicans with 21 Democrats siding with the majority of the GOP. 21 Republicans voted against with 193 Democrats. The bill being considered by the House had been passed previously by the Senate during the partial shutdown

Leading up to the vote on funding, Democrats had been pushing to strip funding for the Department of Homeland Security out of the package, citing concerns over Immigration and Customs Enforcement weeks after the shooting of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.

The vote brings an end to a four-day stand-off between the GOP and Democrats over spending on DHS. The legislation, which was backed by Trump, includes five full-year spending bills but only an extension for government funding for DHS until February 13. The move tees up a new fight over how much funding will go to DHS.

Democrat have been demanding reforms for how ICE operates as a condition of the funding. Although the funding in this package will just go to February 13, there will not be a lapse for funding for immigration agencies which received funding from a vote last year.

If a decision is not met before February 13, there may be another partial government shutdown.
