GOP Rep. from Idaho Mike Simpson announced on Friday that his townhouse in Arlington, Virginia was caught fire on Wednesday morning.

Simpson posted the announcement on X with a caption, "I want to begin by expressing our heartfelt gratitude for the kind words and prayers we’ve received. Earlier this week, I received a call informing me that our house had caught fire. Thankfully, no one was injured. Kathy and I are sincerely grateful to the Arlington County Fire Department and the United States Capitol Police for their swift response."

“On Wednesday morning, I came into work early in the morning, about eight o'clock and had some meetings. And about 10:00 am I was sitting in a meeting in my office, and my staff walked in and handed me the phone and said, ‘You need to take this call.’ So I took it, and it was from my chief of staff in Idaho, and she said, ‘Your house is on fire in DC,’” Simpson recalled of the experience.

He added that he had to drop everything that was going on that day in order to attend to the disaster that struck his property.

"The Arlington fire department was there, the Capitol Hill police there were there. The Arlington police department was there, and it was a pretty major fire, as you can see by the pictures," Simpson added, then showing multiple photos of the severe damage that was done to his home.

"The good news is nobody died, nobody was injured last night," he added. He went onto reflect on the fire, and what happened in the LA wildfires as well as tornadoes that have struck Oklahoma, and the hurricanes in Florida, and added that many of those in the natural disasters "lost everything they had" and that "a lot of them lost their lives."

"Nobody in this fire was injured, nobody was killed. It's a blessing," the congressman concluded in the statement.
