'Equity' listed as top goal by FEMA as damage from Hurricane Helene unfolds

Almost 150 people are dead, thousands dispossessed and millions without power because of Hurricane Helene’s path of destruction through six states, yet the Biden-Harris administration’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been revealed to be focused on “equity” as part of their top goals.

FEMA’s 2022-2026 strategic plan outlines its three “ambitious goals” – the first is ensuring that equity is the focus of any catastrophe or emergency. The Category 4 storm may have left a wasteland along the Southern Atlantic coast but FEMA, the federal agency tasked with responding to disaster relief after a hurricane, is firmly focused on equity so communities can “address the increasing range and complexity of disasters” within their “diverse” sphere, according to its strategic plan.

“Wide-ranging and long-term, the goals defined in the plan respond to the changing landscape in which we find ourselves. While some activities in this plan can be quickly realized, some will require efforts through 2026,” the plan states.

“The plan outlines three bold, ambitious goals to meet this challenge,” the site continued. “These goals position FEMA to address the increasing range and complexity of disasters, support the diversity of communities we serve, and complement the nation’s growing expectations of the emergency management community.”

These goals are viewed by many on social media as not just skewed but entirely divorced from reality. Elon Musk reposted with comment an X post from Libs of Tiktok that noted, “In case you’re wondering why the response to Hurricane Helene has been a disaster… Fema’s goal 1 is to instill equity as a foundation of emergency management. This is real.”

Musk responded: “The whole US government has been doing this.”

FEMA lists its first goal as a desire to “instill equity as a foundation of emergency management,” the second as a plan to “lead the whole community in climate resilience” and the third being to “promote and sustain a ready FEMA and a prepared nation.”

As counties in North Carolina are deluged with flooding and a town in Florida was wiped “off the map,” President Joe Biden has been targeted with media criticism for being detached from the gravity of the problem.

As the Daily Caller noted, in August 2023, FEMA was doing “white supremacy” workshops for its employees while over a thousand Hawaiians were potential victims of the Maui wildfires, according to The Washington Free Beacon. FEMA ran the three-hour long training sessions because it maintained that white supremacy is “ingrained in nearly every system and institution in the U.S.”
