No arrest warrant has yet been issued.
Authorities said that they had tracked the movements of the shooter across campus and that he appeared to be college-aged. A weapon was found in the woods where the shooter had fled. Ammunition cartridges were also recovered with writings on them. Steven Crowder reported that the writing was about trans ideology and Antifa. CNN called it "cultural issues."
The shooting, per the FBI, was targeted specifically. Video footage of the suspect is in the hands of authorities. We’re working through some technologies and some ways to identify this individual. If we are unsuccessful, we will reach out to you as the media, and we will push that publicly to help us identify them," they said.
After that, they released the images of the person of interest to the public and announced a $100,000 reward for information, asking the public for help in securing the identification and arrest of Kirk's killer.
Kirk was killed on Wednesday when he was speaking during a campus event at the Utah Valley University, in Orem, Utah. This was a stop on his "Prove Me Wrong" tour where he would go to colleges and debate with students on hot button social issues. As he spoke to someone in the crowd, shots rang out and he was hit. He was transported quickly to a local hospital where he died.
His body has been transported back to his home of Phoenix, Arizona, on Air Force Two, accompanied by Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance. Kirk leaves behind a wife and two small children.
