On Thursday afternoon, Jim Jordan announced that he is still running for House speaker, coming after earlier reports that he would back Patrick McHenry as interim speaker after losing two rounds of voting.

"I’m still running for speaker, and I plan to go to the floor and get the votes and win this race," Jordan said, adding that he wanted to talk to the 20 GOP members that voted against him in the two rounds of voting.

"We made the pitch to members on the resolution as a way to lower the temperature and get back to work, we decided that wasn’t where we’re gonna go."

This comes after reports that Jordan would throw his support behind a measure making Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry the interim speaker.

McHenry has been the acting House Speaker since Kevin McCarthy was ousted from the role in early October. The House has been without a leader since then, with Steve Scalise initially winning the GOP nomination for the role, but later dropping out in favor of Jordan.

In the first round of voting that took place on Tuesday, 20 GOP members voted against Jordan for other candidates that include Scalise, McCarthy, and Lee Zeldin, leaving Jordan short of the 217 votes needed.

In Wednesday’s second vote, 22 Republicans voted against Jordan.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
