Sunday night, during the Democratic debate, frontrunner Joe Biden promised that his pick for VP would be a woman.
"If I am elected president, my Cabinet, my administration will look like the country ... I commit that I will, in fact, pick a woman to be vice president. There are a number of women qualified to be president tomorrow. I would pick a woman to be my vice president," Biden said

This prompted Senator Bernie Sanders, when asked, to assure the public that preference was a woman for his running mate. Although he specified that she would be progressive, and that there are "progressive women out there."
Biden also pledged to nominate the first black woman to the Supreme Court. "I'm committed that if I am elected president, and I have an opportunity to appoint someone to the courts, I will appoint the first black woman to the courts. It's required that they have representation now, it's long overdue," Biden said.
