"Let me say this as clearly as I possibly can, as simply and straightforward as I can: I am running."
President Biden reportedly told his staff on a call Wednesday that he does not have any intention of dropping out of the 2024 presidential race amid speculation about his potential withdrawal.
“Let me say this as clearly as I possibly can, as simply and straightforward as I can: I am running,” Biden told staffers, according to NBC News Senior White House Correspondent Gabe Gutierrez. "No one is pushing me out.”
"I'm not leaving. I'm in this race to the end and we're going to win,” the president added.
Biden’s attempt to stifle critics who say he should drop out of the race comes after his dismal performance at the CNN presidential debate, which caused concern over his ability to hold the presidency. An earlier report from the New York Times suggested that Biden was considering dropping out following pressure after the debate.
According to the report, a key ally was informed by Biden that he was contemplating withdrawing from the race. Biden allegedly told the ally that he may not be able to salvage his campaign and convince the general public he is capable of continuing to serve as president. The White House denied these claims, calling them “absolutely false.”
